May 7, 1935 - Dec 17, 2017
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dearest Lena Margaret Mary Tracey after battling a number of illnesses.

She was peacefully carried On High by the Angels she loved so much into the arms of her beloved  husband Joe on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at the age of 82, surrounded by her family and most cherished friends  at the Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie.

Lea, or to the many that knew her affectionately, "Wheezie," was born on May 7, 1935 in Cornwall, Ontario to loving parents John and Delina Campbell.  Mom accomplished much in her life professionally having worked for Bell Telephone in Ontario, Met Life, and in Human Resources and Immigration for the Federal Government. But she would happily tell you her greatest accomplishments and joy were in the raising of her family, and the many friends that became her family.

Through mutual friends, our beautiful and fierce fully independent mom, met the love of her life Jerome (Joe) in 1957 in Ottawa and they married on February 27, 1960 and spent 55 wonderful years together before the passing of her beloved Joe in 2015. It was clear to all they were meant to journey life together and their passing will not end their great adventure together.

Life with mom's beloved Joe took them to live in many places - from Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary -  before settling in first Hosmer in 1973, then Fernie and  finally in Sparwood. Along the way, five children were born, Michael, David, David's twin Debra Lee who passed away at the age of two from a brain tumor, finally, Cathey and Barry followed.

Mom made a beautiful home in all these places and with her family and many friends became known throughout the Elk Valley. She was dedicated to her church with her work with the CWL and later her tireless and dedicated work with the Cancer Connection where she counselled people struggling to cope with the disease.

Mom fought her own battles with cancer and her positive outlook and belief in faith and hope gave her a unique insight and helped many in their suffering, for which she was widely commended.

Mom loved the mountains and camping and could chop firewood with the best. Our many family vacations with her and dad have provided us all with an unending source of stories to share for a lifetime.  She was very bright and athletic. She could quote special passages from literature from memory and kick a ball with the best.

She has rejoined her beloved Joe, her darling daughter Debra Lee, her loving parents John and Delina, brothers Earnest (sister-in-law Lucille) and Orville (Peter) and sisters Edna (brother-in-law Grant) and Beatrice O'Neill, sister-in-law Betty and brother-in-law Gord.

Lena will be achingly missed and lovingly remembered by her sons Michael Tracey, David Tracey, Barry (Lauralea) Tracey and her daughter Cathey (Dean) Tracey,  brother Ron  and youngest sister Diane, 10 grandchildren: Ryan, Reagan, Kyle, Brittney, Jared, Jordon, Solange (Dan), Zoe (Zach), Taylor and Alyssa, 3 great grandchildren: Dominic, Lucia and Maverick and very special friends Diane (BFF and beyond) and Alex Seize, Yvette and Logan Depres,  Dale and Judy Garrett and Henry and Jane Gauthier.

Donations may be made in Lea's memory to Lilac Terrace or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
