Leslie Matlock

MATLOCK:

Leslie (Les) Matlock passed away on Monday, April 4, 2011 in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Les was a hardworking, fun loving team member. He dedicated 20 years of his career to Kal Tire in Sparwood. Les had 45 years of experience in the tire industry throughout Southern Alberta and British Columbia.

He had a work ethic that is unsurpassed by few if any, and set a great example for all of our team members. He exemplified customer service and had established relationships built on trust with the community of Sparwood.

Les had the respect of his team members and was a leader at the store. If the team ever needed a hand, Les was always willing to offer his knowledge and support, although sometimes he would take his time in order to enjoy a good chuckle while watching someone struggle. Then he would show the team member the easy and proper way, while the team member’s eyes would light up in amazement.

Being Shop Steward for The International Association of Machinists’ and Aerospace Workers Local 1857 and a leader at Kal Tire was something Les took great pride in.

Kal Tire Sparwood will never be the same without Les. He was always the first one in the shop getting prepared for the day by turning on the compressor and ensuring all hoists were inspected for the safety of the team. He made sure popcorn and coffee was prepared for our customers and was always willing to start early if a customer came in with a flat.

“We will miss you dearly Les, goodbye our friend.”
