November 22, 1929 - November 13, 2024
In loving memory ~
Sadly we mourn the passing of Marjorie Anne Foran (Masters) on November 13, 2024, in Fernie, BC. Marj was born in Wanganui, New Zealand on November 22, 1929. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Tom Foran. Marj lived a purposeful life and experienced many adventures. Marj was an inspiration to many through her art, her creative sewing, and her love of chocolate. She was a full-time student of fine arts and then became an instructor at the Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland. There she met Tom Foran.
Tom and Marj were married in 1953 and continued teaching until 1961 when they sold all their belongings to travel the world. Starting with a long boat journey from New Zealand, through to Australia, Singapore, arriving in London. Their exploits included purchasing a motorhome and traveling through Europe for a year.
They immigrated to Canada in 1962. Arriving in Vancouver with a BC Teacher certificate in hand, Tom Foran landed a job in Fernie BC. Marj continued her painting, inspired by the grandeur of the landscape and such proximity to unspoiled nature. She extended her teaching with adult art classes and participated in group and solo art shows. Her paintings are in private collections around the world, as well as the B.C. Provincial Art Collection.
In 1982 Marj Foran obtained her Certificate of Canadian Citizenship. Marj continued to embrace the Canadian lifestyle with downhill skiing, golfing, camping, curling, and cross-country skiing.
