July 28, 1967 - February 7, 2022
A true Fernie icon, Mark Everitt Brown, passed away suddenly at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook on Monday, February 7th at the age of 54. Mark was born in Fernie on July 28, 1967, the youngest of two sons for Ed and Shirley Brown.
In 1991 while attending a friend's wedding, Mark met Tammy, the woman who eventually captured his heart. Together the couple built a beautiful life, excited about the adventures awaiting them in retirement.
Mark was the third generation to operate his family-owned business, Fernie Meat Market. For over 95 years the local butcher shop was an integral part of Fernie's business community. In December 2021, following a 35-year career, Mark hung up his apron and cleavers to enjoy a well-deserved retirement.
Locals will remember Mark for his warm smile and his friendly "gift of gab." Visitors were always welcomed and engaged quickly into conversation, quite often returning to enjoy more of Brown's famous beef jerky and pepperoni! Mark truly was a friend to many, a stranger to no one.
Mark embodied community spirit, supporting several local organizations including the Elk Valley Rod & Gun Club and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He was dedicated supporter of the Calgary Flames and one of the Fernie Ghostrider's biggest fans.
Mark left an indelible imprint upon everyone he met; his legacy will long be remembered.
Mark is survived by his wife and best friend, Tammy Bristle, in-laws Marvin & Marilyn Bristle, and his brother-in-law Gary Bristle (Jill Lechner) as well as several other extended family members and many wonderful friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Ed and Shirley, grandmother Minnie, brother Eddie, and his uncle Bob.
In Mark's memory, anyone wishing to donate may do so to the Fernie Ghostrider Jr. Hockey Club, Box 178 Fernie, BC, V0B 1M0.
