Karsten, Nellie Kathleen
passed away Feb. 27, 2010 in Victoria of heart disease. Nellie was born in Birch River, Manitoba, May 5, 1935, daughter of Kathleen and Frank Delyea. Nellie spent her early childhood in Fernie, attended school, worked and lived in Cranbrook until her retirement in Victoria. Nellie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed. Her love of life and family will live on through those she left behind. Nellie balanced a keen sense of humour with a brilliant intellect that was inspirational to those she touched throughout her life. She is survived by her loving husband, Doug Karsten of Victoria, son, Peter Molander (Tammy Monsell) of Fernie and three grandchildren, Jarret (Kim Summers) of Campbell River, Justin (Hongyi) of Victoria and Stephanie Hurlburt (Graham) of Kelowna, as well as brothers, Harman Delyea (Bev) of Fernie, John Hayes (Laurie) of Coquitlam and sister Rose Hoelzemer (Patrick) of Salmon Arm and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Barry Molander. In keeping with Nellie’s wishes, there will be no service. In memory of Nellie, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
