Onorato Antonio (Tony) – February 17, 1928 to January 3, 2012

Onorato Melon passed away, surrounded by his family at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary. Onorato will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his daughter and son-in-law: Gianna and Doug Cassell, his son and daughter-in-law: Joseph and Karen Melon and all of his grandchildren: Ryan and Kent Cassell and Adam, Alexandra, Jacqueline and Emily Melon. Onorato is also mourned by his brother Mario in Lethbridge, his brother Olivo in France and his three sisters, Maria in Italy and Natalia and Paolina in Croatia. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Rosa, who he was married to for fifty years. Onorato was born in Montana, Province of Istria, Italy; He immigrated to Canada in 1952, starting on a sugar beet farm for a year before getting employment with CP Rail where he worked for thirty-five years. He married Rosa in Vulcan, Alberta and moved around southern Alberta before eventually settling in the Crowsnest Pass and Sparwood, BC. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Many thanks to the nurses and doctors at the Peter Lougheed Hospital for their kindness and caring help. We would also like to thank the staff and nurses at the Prince of Peace Harbour where Tony had been living for the past year. Prayers were held at 7:00 PM on Friday, January 6, 2012 with the Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Sparwood with Father Bart von Roijen Celebrant. Interment is at Rivercrest Cemetery in Sparwood. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Tony’s name to the Knights of Columbus Council 04455 in Sparwood.
