CHECHOTKO:

On Tuesday, January 31, 2017, Paul Adam Chechotko was summoned to his eternal rest, at last reunited with his beloved wife Lydia. Paul was born in Lohiszyn, Poland on April 26, 1926 to parents Felix and Helen.

Paul is survived by his children: Peter (Tami) Chechotko, Grace (Gene) von Matt and Angela (Aaron) Galt, his son-in-law Dave Shea, 6 grandchildren: Matthew Chechotko, Kyra von Matt, Leah and Sydney Galt, and Tiana and Teneille Shea, and sisters Betty Assaf, Julie Russell, and Anne Wannamaker as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Lydia (Houde) Chechotko, his daughter Michelle, and 6 siblings.

Paul came to Canada at the age of 5, the sixth child of a family of 10 children. He worked on the family’s homestead until moving to the N.W.T. where he began working in underground mining and married Lydia Houde. The couple moved around BC, finally settling in Sparwood in 1972 to finish his mining career and raise their growing family.

Paul was passionate about his community and stood up for many worthwhile causes. He was an avid gardener and his prize poppies produced millions of seeds that were planted by people all over Sparwood. Paul will be remembered by Sparwood residents for cruising around in the “Blue Bubble” and greeting visitors at the Titan.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Monday, February 6th with Father David John, Celebrant. Following the service, Paul was laid to rest at the Rivercrest Cemetery.
