Ricky Evano

(1966 – 2009)

Mr. Ricky Wayne Evano of Coleman, beloved husband of Dixie Evano, and father of Amy & Alissa Evano-Bonertz of Pincher Creek & step-father of Michael & Matthew Rissling of Pincher Creek, and son of Sheri & Don Evano, passed away suddenly at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Monday, December 28, 2009, at the age of 43 years.

Ricky was born to Sheri & Don Evano on August 17, 1966, in Fernie, British Columbia. He grew up loving the beautiful outdoors and learned how to fish and hunt with his Grandpa Horvath at a very young age. He was truly passionate about his outdoor sports, but he grew even more passionate at the birth of his beautiful daughters, Amy and Alissa.

His enthusiasm to teach his children how to fish and hunt was very important to him and loved spending time with his two “favorite girls”. He had other interests such as wildlife photography and taxidermy with his friend Gary. Fixing vehicles was something Ricky always enjoyed doing and was often called to help someone work on a vehicle in their driveway. Recently he was employed as a light-duty mechanic at Elkview Coal, but gained his light-duty apprenticeship at Cowley Motors after he graduated from high school. He was a proud member of the Willow Valley Trophy Club and the North American Hunting Association.

Ricky met and married the love-of-his-life Dixie Lee Hilderman on July 19, 2008, celebrating their love with their four children – Michael, Matthew, Amy & Alissa. Together Ricky & Dixie nurtured, loved and spent time with their children, providing a comfortable place of much laughter and happiness. Ricky will be very missed by his family and friends, but they know that he now walks the gentle hills of heaven holding his rifle and fishing rod in search of the “big one”.

Left to celebrate Ricky’s life is his loving wife Dixie; his daughters: Amy & Alissa Evano-Bonertz of Pincher Creek; his step-sons: Michael & Matthew Rissling of Pincher Creek; his parents Sharon Evano of Blairmore and Don (Pat) Evano of Black Diamond; his brother Randy Evano of Blairmore; his paternal grandmother Aurora Evano of Cranbrook, BC; and his parents-in-law Laura & Fred Hilderman of Medicine Hat; his aunts: Rosalie, Lona, Wendy, Doris, Elaine and Debbie; his uncles: Kenny, John, Wesley, Alvin Schlaht and Roland Houle. Ricky grew up with and shared many fun-filled days with his cousins: Sherry Lynn (Blake) Earl; Alan (Shannon) Williams; David Williams; Darryl Hutchinson; Shona (Andy) Sekella; Scott (Jennifer) Horvath; John Paul Horvath; Kathy (Jason) Hoszouski; Dallas (Brenda) Horvath; Marcy, Stacy & Pious Evano; Kyla & Kendra Davis; Cas (Naomi) Delmas; Kevin Delmas; Corinne (Rob) Moore; Gwen (Darwin) Taylor; and all their families.

He is predeceased by his grandparents: Katarina & Gabe Horvath and Grandpa Fernand Evano.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at 1:00 pm at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church with Pastor Al Robinson officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Randy Evano, Andy Sekella, Gerald Hucik, Danny Delisle, Dave Keller, Rick Dobson and Bruce Cooper.
