August 24, 1952 - June 24, 2020
The family of Bob Ashberry is sad to announce his sudden passing on June 24, 2020 at Kootenay boundary Regional Hospital in Trail, BC. Bob was born on August 24, 1952 in London, Ontario and was the much-loved son of Gordon and Joyce Ashberry from Scarborough Ontario, both of whom are deceased.
He will be greatly missed by his Aunt Edna Bampton (Cyril - deceased), his siblings Dave Ashberry (Ann), Janet Ashberry (Clyde), Ted Ashberry (Kim) his niece Micaila Mahoney-Ashberry and nephews Ben Hadley, Dan Hadley, Jacob Hadley and Connor Mahoney-Ashberry. He will also be fondly remembered by Comomile Eady and many other friends.
Bob graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science Degree and then moved from Scarborough to British Columbia while in his mid twenties, residing first in Nelson and then in Trail. Bob was known for his warm, caring heart and as an intellectual man who was a published poet. He was also a long-standing member of St. Andrew's Anglican Church and served as a volunteer, serving meals to the local community.
He was an avid motor bike enthusiast and for many years travelled quite regularly through various parts of Canada and the United States (much to his mother's concern). He spent many hours reading, which enabled him to be knowledgeable about a variety of interesting subjects and he enjoyed having long discussions with other people.
Cremation has taken place and a family interment will be held later in Ontario.
Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, a Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew's Church in Trail B.C. when it is permissible to do so. (A notice will be published at that time.)
Bob's family in Ontario would like to thank all of his supportive friends and members of the various organizations from which he received care. Knowing he was being helped throughout his life, when he required assistance, was comforting when he lived so far away.
Messages of condolences can be posted on the Alternatives Funeral Home (Trail) website at https://www.myalternatives.ca
