GENTILE:
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Rosalia (Rosa) Gentile. Rosa passed away quietly only 5 days before her 92nd birthday on January 16, 2012 at the Rocky Mountain Village.
Rosa was born to parents Luigi and Rosina Mangone on January 21, 1920 in Castelsilano, Italy. She married her soul mate Giuseppe Gentile and together they raised a family of 4 children. She was an excellent cook and loved to make special meals for her family and loved to entertain. She enjoyed crocheting and embroidery, Italian card games and gardening. Rosa loved to catch up on the latest gossip around town and couldn’t get enough of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Rosa was predeceased by her parents and her husband in 1955. Left to mourn her passing are children: Maria and Benedetto Leo, John Gentile and Brenda Young, Louis and Louise Gentile and Frank and Cathy Gentile, her grandchildren; Rosemarie and Ed Lesjak, Tony and Tracy Leo, Joey and Tara Gentile, John Peter Gentile and Shauna Grant, Rose Lee Gentile and Ben Salter, Tammy and Jerry Kendall, Shawn and Erin Gentile and Ryan and Kristen Gentile. Also left to mourn her passing are her great grandchildren: Matteo Lesjak and Alia, Sarina and Hallie Leo of Vancouver, Dante and Dario Gentile of Medicine Hat, Mikayla Gentile, Jensen and Harrison Salter, Brett and Brock Kendall of Lethbridge and Logan and Brodie Gentile of San Jose, California. Siblings Salvatore (wife Amalia), Benedetto, Caterina Mangone and sister-in-law Giovannina Mangone will also miss her loving smile and sense of humour.
Prayers were held on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 7:00 PM with the Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 10:30 AM both at the Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Bart von Roijen Celebrant. Burial took place at St. Margaret’s Cemetery in Fernie. The family will be making a memorial donation to an orphanage in Pompeii, Italy in Rosa’s name.
