Dec 5, 1918 - Mar 15, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce that Rosina Berdusco passed away quietly in her sleep on March 15, 2018 in Fernie, BC at the age of 99 years.

Born in Basiliano, Udine, Italy in 1918 to parents Rachele and Girolamo Venir, Rosina had two brothers, Remigio and Angelo, and two sisters, Leonilda and Ermida.

Rosina immigrated to Cranbrook, BC in 1949 post-war, passing through customs at Ellis Island, making her way to Canada. She worked at the Cranbrook Hospital and met Antonio Berdusco whom she married in 1950. They moved to Michel, BC and later relocated to nearby Sparwood, BC. Rosina worked for Bertoia's Grocery and later the Sparwood Hospital in the housekeeping department where she earned the reputation as a loyal and hard worker.

Rosina will always be remembered for her incredible cooking and baking skills. Scalili was one of her baking specialties for the many bridal showers and weddings in Sparwood. Alongside a bountiful vegetable and fruit garden, Rosina won many awards for her beautiful flowers over the years in which she took great pleasure.

Rosina had a strong faith and was a constant presence in the Catholic Church as a choir singer and member of the Mount Carmel Society and the Catholic Women's League. She was strong and kind, feisty, and a true pillar and matriarch for her family.  Her life, along with her husbands, was dedicated to her family.

Hospital staff marveled at this women who lived to 98 years old before spending a night in hospital. Even bringing her two children into the world did not create a hospital stay as she had her children at home with the aid of a midwife.

Her greatest joy was her family. She loved to prepare fabulous meals for them and watch them enjoy eating her food. Seeing her grandchildren and then great grandchildren made her eyes light up; she enjoyed every minute with them, giving them treats and spoiling them as much as she could.

Rosina is survived by her two children, son Roger (Judy) and daughter Franca, six grandchildren: Kirsten, Jeff (Tegan), Dan (Melanie), Kim, Kristy and Christopher, and nine great grandchildren: Sydne, Alex, McKenzie, Trey, Julius, Mia, Seren, Paisley, and Brooke.

Rosina is also survived by many nieces and nephews who all have fond memories of her. She was predeceased by her loving husband Antonio in 1989, and all her brothers and sisters.

Rosina lived in her own home in Sparwood until 2005 when she moved to Lilac Terrace. Her years at Lilac Terrace were very happy and she enjoyed playing cards and socializing with her many dear friends there. In 2017 she moved to Rocky Mountain Village in Fernie.

We will be forever grateful for the wonderful staff at both places for taking such great care of her over the years. We would also like to thank Dr. Jeff Radar for taking care of all her health needs over the years. We are also grateful to Father David John for his spiritual council and friendship over the years. His constant presence in her life always brought her peace.

Rosary and private family viewing to be held Friday, April 13, 2018 at Cherished Memories "Serenity Chapel" in Fernie, BC. The Funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sparwood.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Lilac Terrace, Box 1587, Sparwood, BC V0B 2G0.
