November 8, 1934 - October 18, 2018
It is with great sadness we announce that in the early morning hours of Friday, October 19th, Roy passed away peacefully at the Elk Valley Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Roy was born on November 8, 1934 in St Helens, Lancashire, England to John and Doris Small. As a young man Roy became interested in boxing, going on to win several matches. At the age of 16, he met his soulmate, the exquisite Jean Talbot. Shortly after their meeting, Roy joined the British Navy where he worked on submarine radios. Upon his return from the Navy he married his beloved Jean and together the couple created a beautiful family of five.

In 1974 the Small family immigrated to Canada where Roy worked for the mine for over 26 years. He also joined mine rescue and went on to win many awards with his team.

Roy loved spending time with his family at the lake, camping and fishing every day during the summer. In the winter, he loved travelling around the world on new adventures with Jean. Roy also enjoyed hockey and rugby, whether it was on TV, or watching his grandkids play, Roy loved his sports!

Roy will be remembered for the strength he has shown, the love he had for his beautiful family, the amazing stories we all got the pleasure of hearing, and the smile he had on his face every day.

Roy will be missed dearly by his children: Janet (Tony) Zielinski, Philip (Maria) Small, Jackie Small (Keith Lobban), David Small (Michelle Pires Collins), and Pauline (Duane) Zuffa, his 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Roy was predeceased by his parents John and Doris Small, seven siblings, his wife of 63 years, Jean Small on January 3, 2018, and his grandson Joseph Carolla on March 27, 2018.

Memorial donations may be made in Roy's name to the Canadian Cancer Society, www.cancer.ca.
