Sheila Helen LITTLE

Sheila Helen LITTLE

It is with much sadness that we announce that Sheila Helen Little passed away peacefully on Monday, December 26, 2016 at Rocky Mountain Village, surrounded by her close family.

Sheila was born in Aspen Grove, BC on December 13, 1925 to Alrick Gustav Larson and Jessie Francis (nee Swanson). Her early years were spent in Blakeburn, BC before the family moved to Fernie and then to Natal in 1941.

Following a brief courtship, Sheila married her sweetheart, Sydney Little, on December 18, 1943 in Coleman, AB. They enjoyed 43 years of marriage while raising three children on their acreage in the Elk Valley. Sheila was a devoted wife and mother. Her greatest joys were taking care of her children, and in her later years, her grandchildren. She always took the time to listen, and when she gave advice, it was well thought out, good advice. If she thought you needed to hear something, she didn’t hesitate to tell you.

She always had a smile and a warm welcome for people. For many years, she was known as the “Avon Lady”. She loved to knit slippers and sweaters for her family, and in her later years, she enjoyed swimming and going out for dinner with her dear friends. Sheila loved to go on bus trips to Bonner’s Ferry, Reno, and Calgary where she enjoyed shopping and going to Stage West.

Sheila is survived by her son Brian (Jeannine) and her son-in-law Larry Halverson, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, as well as nieces and nephews who all love her dearly and will miss her always.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Sydney and her two devoted daughters, Joan Halverson and Gail Doubinin, sisters Molly Doratty and Harriet Larson, and her brother Charles Larson.

The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Michal for his wonderful bedside manner, and all the staff at both the Elk Valley Hospital and Rocky Mountain Village. We would also like to thank the staff of every department in Lilac Terrace for making Sheila’s last years so comfortable and happy.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Lilac Terrace (Elk Valley Seniors Housing Society), Box 1587, Sparwood, BC, V0B 2G0.
