July 10, 1948 - August 19, 2024

In loving memory ~

On August 19, 2024, Stanley Kilford hung up his camera in Calgary Alberta, for the last time.

Stanley was born July 10, 1948, in Nelson, BC to parents Roy and Mary Kilford; the family soon grew to include his sisters Jean and Donna. Stanley remained in Nelson until landing in Yellowknife, NWT, where he was admitted to the hospital and met a nurse named Frances. After a whirlwind romance, they were married on March 16, 1972. The couple then moved to Port Hardy BC where Stanley started and completed his apprenticeship. The family planted roots in Sparwood BC. He retired after 31 years as a heavy-duty mechanic from Fording River where he was known as "rocket man".

Stanley was an active member of the Kinsmen club in the 1980s, his extensive community service spanned years and projects, including building a helipad for the local hospital. Stanley could be found riding his Harley most summers; he attended numerous toy-runs and bike rallies through the years (including the legendary Sturgis). In his later years, Stanley was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 81. He held numerous positions at the Legion (including President and Sergeant at Arms) and facilitated the Remembrance Day ceremony for many years. Stanley was also an avid woodworker, building a beautiful dining room table for Frances and numerous other pieces for family and friends. His other interests included riding his quad, camping, watching Price is Right, playing online poker, and travelling to tropical destinations.

Stanley's true passions were his grandchildren and photography (often combining the two). Stanley could always be found at his grandchildren's functions, behind the lens and cheering them on.

He will be deeply missed by all.

Stanley is survived by his loving wife, Frances Kilford, of 52 years; son Collin Kilford (Charlene); daughter Shannon Burness (Patrick); sister Donna Kilford; grandchildren Simon, Kaleb, Ocean, and Bauer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his sister Jean, brother-in-law Terry, and parents Roy and Mary Kilford.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
