LATOS:
Stanley Latos, 92 years old, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Elk Valley Hospital.
Stan is survived by sisters Helen (Mario) Fantuz and Catherine Latos, nephew Walter (Joanna) Fantuz, nieces Margaret (Bob) Singleton and Sherry (Scott) Preston, 10 great nieces and nephews, 11 great great nieces and nephews and many cousins. He was predeceased by parents Ludy and Catherine, sister Kathleen, niece Linda Whitelaw (Fantuz), and great great nephew Zeke Fantuz.
Stan was second-generation born in Fernie to Ludy and Catherine Latos (nee Stelliga) on April 26, 1924. He spent many years working in the coal mines and later as a janitor.
Stan was totally devoted to his faith, always happy to help and do errands for the church. On Sundays, he would summon parishioners by ringing the church bell. He frequented the cafes for lunch, and spent many hours playing cards at the Senior’s Center. Stan talked to everyone and loved to tell old stories. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Should friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in Stan’s name to the Tom Uphill Manor (Recreation Dept.) or to the Senior’s Drop In Center.
