In Loving Memory ~
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a genuine, born-and-raised, dyed-in-the-rabbit-fur Fernie original.
Larger than life, full beard and pork-pie hat, Troy 'Bubba' Cook was for many the very definition of iconoclast. A man truly invested in art-as-life. He marched to the plunk of his own ukulele and boom of confetti cannon. Artist, musician, labour activist, social justice warrior, doting cat dad and loving husband.
A gifted polymath, it is hard to overstate the various and profound impacts Troy has had on his home community, his musical community, his artistic community, his labour community, his political community, and his community of friends. By turns empathetic, dry, funny, wise, and sardonic, Troy left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Troy will be sorely missed and long remembered as the motes of his compassion and creativity drift along the myriad interconnected byways of his life inspiring art, kindness, and social activism.
Rest easy, brother!
Troy is survived by Debra Brygadyr, his loving wife of 25 years; his father Dennis; his brother Scott and sister-in-law Penny Cook; his nephew Kristian Cook; niece Lania Cook (Stu Mill) and his great nephew Xavier Mill.
He is survived also by numerous uncles and aunts: Frank (Fran) Kubos and cousins Erin (Brent) Kivit and Amber (Rob) Smith; aunt Betty (Robert) Rossier and cousins Brigitte (Jay) Molyneaux and Andre (Jill) Rossier; uncle Richard (Shirley) Cook; uncle Delbert (Diane) Cook; aunt Cheryl (Fred) Wolfram; aunt Sharon (Ralph) Lovatt; uncle Brian (Cathy) Cook; aunt Faye Cook; and uncle Ernie (Karen) Cook.
Troy was predeceased by his mother Louise and his uncle Gary (Shirley) Cook; his uncle Allen (Karen) Cook; and uncle Neil (Marylin) Cook.
He is survived by so many cousins that he was fond of saying he wouldn't know many if he passed them on the street.
He is missed by his fur family Desmond, Gwennie, Gilda, Pooby Bear, Oreo, Lily, and Stanley.
Deb expresses her profound gratitude to Dr. Michal and Dr. Stuckey; the homecare nurses, especially Alanna and Karen; and the teams while Troy was in hospice. And, to the many friends who made Troy's last days a little brighter: Casey, Donna, Clyde, Ange, Mark, John, Min, Alvin, Kevin, Nic, Sylvia, Carmen, and so many, many more.
