Congratulations go to the organizers of the first Wapiti Music Festival held in Fernie recently. All the hard work put into making this event a success paid off as a thousand people attended each day of the two day event. That’s a lot of attendees so that says a lot about the quality of music offered as well as the excellence of planning required to pull off something of this magnitude.

This week I have been chatting with my friends, who are also parents of children who attend school in the Elk Valley, and there has always been a common conversation about teachers. Whether it be the Fernie Academy or Rocky Mountain Elementary, every parent I have talked to has mentioned how amazing the teachers are. How they go the extra mile to help their students, how they are friendly, warm and kind, how they have been the ones to change children’s lives for the better.

NDP leader Adrian Dix couldn’t contain his glee at the result of the harmonized sales tax referendum. Bill Vander Zalm is thrilled too, still apparently unaware that he has taken money away from the poor and given it back to his fellow wealthy B.C. residents.

He would never quite admit it, but former premier Gordon Campbell’s push for self-sufficiency in clean electricity has always looked to me like a long-term strategy to export hydroelectric power. It still looks that way

I read MLA Bill Bennett’s ad in The Free Press about the Columbia Basin Trust helping the region.

I just want to say how many old memories came back to me reading Mary Giuliano’s story about the Yip family.

This letter is with relation to the article “Controversy at The Kodiak Lounge.” As bar owners/operators who live directly next to the Kodiak Lounge we understand the importance of respecting resident views and we also realize the importance of respecting our fellow resident families in the community.

The crown jewel of B.C. utilities is such a money machine that it can allow extravagant practices and still deliver some of the cheapest, cleanest, most stable energy in North America.
