The 2019 Lone Wolf race in Fernie attracted 175 racers from far and wide to take on its unique challenge of running a 6.75km lap within a one-hour time frame. If racers completed the lap before the time ran out, they could rest. If they arrived back after the hour had expired, they were eliminated. This method of elimination applied to both solo runners, and teams.
Doug Howson from Cochrane Alta. was crowned the 2019 Lone Wolf champion after completing 16 laps and 108.8km. Howson consistently completed his laps in around 45 minutes.
The Lone Wolf Masters winner was Flemming Sondergaard who completed 15 laps and 102km of running. The Lone Wolf Female winner was Mandy Currie who completed 10 laps and 68km. The Lone Wolf Female Masters winner was Brenda Dryer who also completed 10 laps and 68km.
The Coyote Male (team) winners were team ‘Welcome to the Talar Dome’ made up of Dana McMahon and Russ Hanson. They completed 13 laps and 88.4km.
The Coyotes Female team, the ‘Trail-shattering She-wolves’ completed 11 laps and 74.8km to take the win.
The mixed team winners, the ‘Bears’, comprised of Bruce Duong and Rachel Wong completed 16 laps and 108.8km.
The Cougar Male winners were Andrew Fairhurst and Troy Misseghers, the ‘Crowsnest Coffee Dingos’, who completed 15 laps and 102km.
The Cougar Female winners, Christine Misseghers and Shirlene Gietz, aka ‘BBK’, completed 15 laps and 102km.
The Cougar mixed winners were ‘J-Squared’, Jed and Jillian Cochrane, who completed 14 laps and 95.2km.
The Pups were also strong. The Pups Male winners, ‘journey to the unknown’ comprised of Samuel Sjoden and Danny Macmaster, completed 10 laps and 68km.
The Mixed Pups category was tied between the ‘Zandas’, comprised of Layla Bourne and Jt Smith, and the ‘Peniths’, comprised of Ethan Clukey and Lily Clifton. Both teams completed 54.4km over eight laps.
