Two Olympians visited Fernie Alpine Resort on the weekend to try out the ski and snowboard cross run.

Ashleigh McIvor and Maelle Ricker both took gold medals last year at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

McIvor was a member of Canada’s freestyle skiing team at the Vancouver Olympics where ski-cross was making its debut as an official medal event. McIvor won the first ever Olympic gold medal for ladies’ ski cross.

Ricker was the first Canadian woman to win an Olympic gold medal on home soil when she took gold in the snowboard cross.

Matt Mosteller, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing at Fernie Alpine Resort said it was very exciting to have the two Canadian athletes visit. “We are stoked as they are both amazing individuals and great youth mentors for the sports of skiing and snowboarding,” he said.
