Registration opens for Fernie Enduro race

The enduro, which challenges riders to handle a timed course of mostly deep descents, will be held Saturday, August 23.

It’s going down! The 2nd Annual Fernie Enduro race returns to town.

The enduro, which challenges riders to handle a timed course of mostly deep descents, will be held Saturday, August 23.

This year’s course entails three large descents totaling over 22 kilometers of riding and 1,194 meters of vertical descent. Most riders are expected to complete the race between three to six hours, an event press release said.

“It should be a really fun race and it’s a lot more social and more enjoyable, in my opinion, than a regular cross country race,” said Dan Savage, event director of the ride. “Only the descents are timed so you can wait for your buddies at the bottom before getting to the next descent, have some food, hang out.”

This year, the three descents will include Verboten, Slunt/Brokenback and Project 9.

The event will be staged in Cedar Valley from the Island Lake Lodge parking lot, and there will be an after party and dinner for riders after the race.

Proceeds from the event will go towards supporting local trail initiatives by the Fernie Trails Alliance.

Registration is open now at enduro.bike and will close August 20. Fernie Mountain Bike Club and Fernie Flyers Cycling members are eligible for a 20 per cent discount, available via e-mail through fts@fernie.com.
