The Fernie Ghostriders endured an exhausting road trip to play in Revelstoke, 100 Mile House and Kamloops over the weekend of January 17 to 19.

The first game against the Revelstoke Grizzlies on Friday, January 17 resulted in a 6-3 victory for the Riders. Justin Bond, younger brother of Ghostrider Kurtis, joined the team for the weekend and scored the first goal of the night in the opening minutes of his first-ever junior hockey game. Kurtis quickly followed his sibling with a goal of his own, along with Ben Primeau, Aaron Neufeld, Joel Burgess and Dylan Robertson.

The following night in 100 Mile House, the Riders battled the Wranglers and looked set to go into overtime until Burgess tipped the score 3-2 in the Ghostriders’ favour with just 14 seconds left in the game. Aidan Geiger and Neufeld provided the other two goals for the Riders in an exciting game with a crowd of over 500 spectators.

The Riders fought the fatigue of their previous two nights to take on the top-of-the-league Kamloops Storm on Sunday, January 20. Neufeld scored the only goal of the night for the Riders early in the second period while the team spent a total of 15 minutes short-handed throughout the game due to an assortment of penalties. Goalie Austin Wells made a great effort in blocking 43 of 46 shots by the Storm and was particularly effective in the third period, but at the final siren it was Kamloops who took the 3-1 victory.

The Riders will host the Columbia Valley Rockies at 7:30 pm on Saturday, January 25 at the Fernie Memorial Arena. Don’t miss this much-anticipated division game as the Riders’ seek to secure their place in the playoffs.
