Sparwood: New McDonalds Opens

The late November opening of McDonalds in Sparwood marks a busy time for the ‘Golden Arches’ corporation in 2023. The national chain opened half a dozen or more restaurants in Western Canada in the last quarter of 2023.

“Exciting news for another community in British Columbia. Today marks the opening of the golden arches proudly standing tall in Sparwood, BC! Conveniently located off the Crowsnest Highway between Fernie and the BC/AB border, residents and travelers alike will be able to pick up their McDonald’s favourites,” commented Victoria Gereluk, real estate manager, West – McDonalds Canada on Linkedin, about the opening of the new restaurant along busy Highway #3.

The new-look Sparwood McDonald’s seats over 45 people, has drive-through service, offers McDelivery and is open 24 hours a day.

Sparwood: BC Hydro’s New Switchyard Project Underway

Work on Natal’s 60-138 kV Switchyard Upgrade Project east of Sparwood is underway. The $84 million project is to address reliability, regulatory and safety risks at the Natal substation as the current switchyard equipment is at end of life and requires replacement.

BC Hydro stated, “The improvement project is important to increase the substation’s capacity and meet the growth in the electricity demand from industrial customers in the Elk Valley. The expected in-service date for the new switchyard is December 2024.”

Cranbrook: Fastenal Moves to Larger Location

The Cranbrook branch of Fastenal has moved to a new larger location in Cranbrook’s Industrial Park. They were located just behind Players Bench off of Cranbrook Street.

“The new location is better suited for us with more warehouse and storage room,” said Robert Mason, general manager of Fastenal’s Cranbrook. “Our new spacious 5,200 square foot fulfillment centre/warehouse has three overhead doors for better access to all our inventory.”

If you need anchors, bolts, hardware, nails, nuts, pins, clips, rivets, rods, screws, sockets, clamps, hangers or washers chances are you will find them at Fastenal as the company is the largest fastener distributor in North America. Fastenal Cranbrook serves industry and businesses throughout the entire East Kootenay, as far north as Golden. The branch has six employees and the new location is at 407 Industrial Road A.

Kimberley: Kula Yoga Opens in Marysville

Sasha Bahador, who recently moved to Kimberley, has opened the Kula Yoga and Sacred Space in Marysville. The 1,000 square foot space is located at the back of the new Bellwether Curated Home store at 454 304th Street.

“We offer daily movement and yoga classes as well as monthly seminars on healthy living,” says Sasha Bahador, owner and business partner with Celeste Needham, owner of Bellwether. “We are really trying to offer a calm and welcoming space to feed the mind, body and spirit.” Their classes can host up to 24 or 25 participants.

Kula Yoga space is available to local groups for rent for small gatherings, workshops and other events. Sasha adds about the welcoming space, “Kula means community or collective in Sanskrit.”
