April events at Fernie Heritage Library

The Fernie Heritage Library has a number of programs and events planned for the month of April. April is Poetry Month and the special days include Holocaust Remembrance Day, April 18 and Earth Day, April 22.

The Fernie Heritage Library has a number of programs and events planned for the month of April. April is Poetry Month and the special days include Holocaust Remembrance Day, April 18 and Earth Day, April 22.

Adult programming has lots to offer.

The Fernie Writers Series presents Marsha Lederman on Thursday, April 14 at 7 p.m.

She will be discussing her book Kiss the Red Stairs: The Holocaust Once Removed, led by local author Angie Abdou. Both of the Author’s parents are Polish survivors of the Holocaust. Kiss the Red Stairs is a memoir about the impacts of the holocaust on the author, a generation later. The book is about the holocaust, trauma, parenting, and community.

Also coming up are a series of FHL Makerspace Digitization Workshops Learn to digitize your old vinyl, cassettes, VHS tapes, photographs, film and slides.

Video Digitization: Saturday, April 15 2 p.m.

Photo Digitization: Thursday, April 20, 6 p.m.

Audio Digitization: Friday, April 28, 2.m.

Children’s Programming will include Wednesday Toddlertime Sessions, every Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. for ages 1 to 5. The sessions are led by Miss Laura from CBAL.

And teens can attend the KLF Kootenay Teen Book Club on Tuesday, April 4 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Under discussion will be the YA versions of Braiding Sweetgrass. Author Monique Grey Smith will Soon in.

There is also an abundance of community programming.

On Saturday April 15, 22 and 29 from 1 to 4 p.m, set up an appointment to complete your tax return. This is a free income tax preparation program for limited income, simple returns. email TLC4905@gmail.com.

The mid month movie, screening Thursday, April 13 at 7 p.m. is WALL-E, a family movie tht celebrates Earth Day.

And on Earth Day itself, April 22, pick up clean up supplies at the Library and celebrate Earth Day with library staff at the annual community clean-up.
