Last weekend, the Fernie Nordic Society, Fernie Trails Alliance and Teck hosted the Community Cross Country Ski Day at the Elk Valley Nordic Centre.
The free, all-ages event included Nordic lessons, live music from RedGirl, a ski obstacle course, free ski rentals, a caricature artist, BBQ, s’more station, games and more. There were also remarks from:
• Megan Lohmann, Co-Chair – Partnerships, Fernie Nordic Society
• Sheila Risbud, Vice President, Sustainable Development, Teck Coal
• Nic Milligan, Mayor, City of Fernie
• Wannes Luppens, Executive Director, Cross Country BC
“Celebrating safe and responsible recreation at community-centred spaces like the Elk Valley Nordic Centre is core to caring for the people, communities and lands where we operate,” said Sheila Risbud, Head of Sustainable Development for Teck. “We are so proud to have been able to partner with an organization like the Fernie Nordic Society to bring our community together and enjoy nature for this fun-filled day.”
