As of July 16, Fernie Alpine Resort (FAR) will be bringing its offerings to new heights. FAR will be the first in North America to offer lift accessed camping. Glamorous camping or ‘glamping’ will be taking place at the top of the Timber chairlift.

Campers will sleep near Lost Boys Café. Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales & Resort Experience, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, Matt Mosteller spoke with The Free Press about RCR’s latest offering in Fernie.

“[It’s] so vital to broaden our reach. To provide different experiences is so important, to get as many people the opportunity to experience the mountains and the outdoors. [It] gives people more reasons to add Fernie to their to do list and also gives those who already love it a chance to do more here and experience the beauty of the alpine,” he said.

Currently FAR is the only resort known to have this style of glamping in the works. When asked about why FAR was chosen as the first RCR resort to offer camping, Mosteller responded with, “Fernie is a perfect place as we have a beautiful alpine meadow that is perfect for a night under the stars.”

Campers will ride the chairlift up and find their provided tents already set up and waiting for them. According to a press release from FAR, during the Lost Boys Alpine Camping experience campers will sightsee, be led on a guided hike, have a raclette dinner, and breakfast, champagne upon arrival and smores by the fire before bedtime.

Mosteller believes that it will be primarily single-night experiences and is opened to everyone, but is ideal for those who don’t backpack.

“The feedback has been very positive - like awesome, people have been wanting to go camping in a high alpine meadow but did not want to backpack there so now with the lift it is giving access to many who would never do this but can have this magical experience,” he said. “We are just really getting started sharing this new experience and we think it will be popular.”

Lost Boys Camping will be available on weekends, for booking or more information visit or call the resorts Guest Services at 250-423-2435.
