Elk Valley Hospital has welcomed Fernie’s first baby of 2023.
The New Year’s Baby is named Cara Emily Wassink. Her parents Nicolette and Zach Wassink welcomed her to the world on Jan. 1 at 10:55 a.m.
Cara entered the world healthily and without complications at six pounds and four ounces.
“We’re really happy and just overjoyed to have her here,” said Nicollette Wassink.
Cara is the second child in the family and joins her older brother Denver, who is three years old.
When asked what he’s looking forward to doing with his sister, Denver shared the universal dream of older siblings everywhere: a full-time companion to “play toys.”
“He’s really enjoying his sister,” Nicollette Wassink said.
The Wassinks described the experience of having the new years baby as “really exciting” and are now looking forward to relaxing and spending time with their children.
