Renaming the Cedar Valley connector trail

Put on your thinking caps and submit your new name suggestions today!

The Fernie Trails Alliance (FTA) wants you to put on your thinking cap to come up with a new name for the Cedar Valley connector trail. This trail will allow recreation users to travel safely up to Island Lake Lodge via the power line leaving from the lower Island Lake parking lot. This project aims to provide a recreational opportunity for young families and intermediate users.

This is an actual contest giving you a chance to win a summer stay package at Island Lake Lodge including dinner and breakfast. Submit your trail name on their Facebook Page by September 17 at 5 p.m. The best name will be selected by members of the FTA board and announced on their Facebook Page.

Phase I began last year. FTA volunteers and backcountry trail experts are working hard on Phase II. The second phase is from Project 9 Hydro Road to the powerline (approximately 3 kilometers), and requires three bridges and 1,000 feet of boardwalk.

The trail will showcase old growth cedars, impressive nursery stumps, and unique viewpoints of the Lizard Range. The scope for the overall Cedar Valley Connector Trail is to place interpretive signs showcasing these impressive sights.
