Two neighbourhoods in Fernie were honoured with FireSmart recognition last week, having successfully made their surrounding greenspace less prone to wildfire spread.

There are now close to 14 neighbourhoods in Fernie that have completed or are working towards becoming FireSmart through the Community Recognition Program.

“Everybody that’s here, thanks so much for all your work and we do appreciate it,” said Fernie Fire Chief Ted Ruiter.

“Let’s keep building this fire safe community.”
