Goddess Rising

Over 100 women from the Elk Valley will gather together to take part in free pampering sessions, numerous workshops and to hear inspirational women speak in a day of sharing, empowerment and enlightenment on International Women’s Day (IWD). The event will take place at Fernie Secondary School, Saturday March 8, 10 am to 5:30 pm, and is open to any woman in the Elk Valley. People are encouraged to pop in, even if they just come for the $5 lunch, or to hear one of the speakers. It would be great for everyone to get involved at some level. The first 100 participants receive a great little goodie selection that includes a journal, some samples and $20 off facials at 901 Spa.

“There is something for everybody at this year’s event,” said Rachel Cline, event organizer. “We have made the schedule as varied as possible so that no matter what age you are or what interests you have there will be something that you will enjoy.”

Following the success of last year's event entry is free, with door donations going to local women’s groups. The pamper sessions are free and refreshments are by donation, so that everyone feels there is some part of the day they can access.

“The online silent auction that we have arranged for this year’s event is amazing. We have over $6,000 in donated gifts, with something for every budget,” said Tanya Malcolm, event organizer. “The Facebook page holds all the details of what prizes are on offer and how much to bid. We have amazing offers great restaurants, photographers, retailers and services, including Mow and Snow offering lawn cutting and snow removal.”

International Women’s Day was founded in 1910 and now takes place in countries throughout the world with thousands of events on every continent and a global collective of women taking part. It was designed as a strategy to promote equal rights and suffrage for women. This year’s theme is ‘inspiring change’.
