Students from Isabella Dicken Elementary School and Fernie Secondary School joined together to present an evening of music during the schools’ final music performance of the year. The June 5 concert began with student, Sean LeBlanc, taking the director’s position, as he could not play due to a broken arm. Then, students took the audience through a spectrum of tones, produced by several grade 6 and 7 concert bands, a choir group, and the electronic sounds of digital audio production.

The students first started playing in September and have given two other concerts throughout the school year.

“I had a blast at the concert,” said music teacher, David Pasivirta, who recently moved to Fernie with his wife and two children to fill the vacant music director position. “I'm so happy to be here, and I am glad that this community is becoming a home to me and my family.”

“Students need to be able to learn the traditional as well as current methods of producing music,” said Pasivirta, noting his plans to develop senior bands, infuse a jazz/rock/funk aspect to the program, and to also further develop the digital recording side of the program.
