The Elk Valley dug deep, and in memory of Betty White, animal lovers donated almost $3,000 to their local animal welfare group - Twin Meadows Animal Rescue Society (TMARS).

It was part of a wide campaign that spread online to remember the popular American actress Betty White, who died only days before her 100th birthday (Jan. 17), and famously loved animals.

“We asked the Elk Valley to come together for the legendary Betty White and what would have been her 100th birthday,” said Noelle LeMaitre of TMARS.

“We asked for a $5 from anyone who was able to donate in her name. Our amazing communities went above and beyond for Betty White! This fundraiser exceeded our expectations,” she said.

“We are continually blown away by the support we receive. There’s still a few more donations on the way but we’re looking at close to $3000 in donations! Thank you so much everyone. We think Betty White would be extremely proud of everyone.”

TMARS adopted out almost 150 animals in the Elk Valley in 2021, with 71 cats, 65 dogs, six rabbits and a chinchilla named Pikachu finding their loving homes.

For more information on TMARS, you can visit their website at twinmeadowsanimalrescue.org, where you can learn about them and the many animals they help that are up for foster or adoption.
