The City of Fernie has updated the water quality advisory to a Boil Water Notice.

Due to a mechanical repair at James White Well, the city switched to its Fairy Creek Water supply and is now advising residents to drink boiled water or an alternative until further notice.

The notice says water meant for drinking, washing food, making drinks or ice, or brushing teeth should be boiled for one minute.

According to the city current weather conditions have resulted in increased turbidity (cloudiness) in the Fairy Creek water bringing its rating level to ‘poor.’

Interior Health has been notified and the city said the public will be told when the repairs are done and the notice has been rescinded.
