In an effort to support social distancing efforts, Teck has closed overnight access to all private land holdings in the Elk Valley. The limitation was released on April 9, and will immediately prohibit overnight camping until further notice.

The decision was made in alignment with the recently announced provincial restriction that prohibits camping and motorized recreation throughout the Koocanusa Recreation Strategy area. Both restraints were set in place to ensure that directions from provincial health officers pertaining to COVID-19 are respected and followed.

Though Teck’s land holdings are off-limits for overnight camping, the area remains open for day use as long as social distancing guidelines are followed. As a result, unnecessary travel is advised against and environmental responsibility remains an ongoing priority when using the outdoor sites.
