Ken Wildeman will be running for a councillor position in the District of Elkford in the 2014 municipal election.

Two-term serving councillor Ken Wildeman is looking to be re-elected in the District of Elkford, a place he calls his “piece of heaven.”

A retired coalmine worker and Elkford resident for the last 20 years, Wildeman hopes to continue the stability that many of the incumbents and himself have put in place for the District of Elkford through his re-election.

“I see some continuity with our district planning,” said Wildeman, “not a bunch of radical things that are going to change.”

Moving forward, Wildeman said that he still believes there are things he would want to focus on if he happened to be re-elected as councillor, including repaving roads in Elkford and stability goals in the long term regarding budgets and Elkford’s finances.

“What I’m striving for is responsible, long-term infrastructure and financial planning,” said Wildeman. “Coinciding with that, a balanced budget. I hope to continue to support flood and wildfire mitigation. I’m also pushing to repave at least half a kilometer a year of our town.”

Repaving in the District of Elkford has been a prominent issue on the minds of all those running, and Wildeman hopes that when they do finally move forward with repaving plans that the district does it right.

“I don’t want to repave these roads and then three months later rip them up to replace sewage and pipes,” explained Wildeman.

Wildeman hopes that his “communication skills, business knowledge and balanced common sense” will continue to be put to use to the administration of the district.
