The East Kootenay Community Credit Union (EKC) in Elkford recently donated $500 to the Elkford Community Garden.

The organizers of the garden thanked the EKC, and the St. Bernard Parish for the use of their property, and the many gardeners that make the garden a special place in the community.

The garden was established in 2013 with help from donations from Teck, and has since grown to provide 57 garden beds, and two greenhouses with 12 garden trays in each.

Gardeners have access to garden tools, raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb, 12 different herbs and free composting. A gazebo provides a shaded resting spot and playground toys occupy the little ones.

The Community garden is now entering its seventh year in operation, and while it cannot welcome visitors due to COVID-19, the organizers say that “we look forward to the day when we can again encourage the community to visit and enjoy.”
