Elk Valley cadets place second in marksmanship competition

Elk Valley team was awarded second place for total overall points and top junior shot

Elk Valley Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron took second place in multiple categories at a marksmanship competition that was held on Feb. 10 and 11.

The group finished second with 1,272 points out of a possible score of 1,600. They landed a few hundred points behind Trail Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets with 1,421 and narrowly beat Nelson Osprey Squadron by six points.

Each group of cadets was tasked with firing .177 caliber Daisy air rifles at four targets placed at a 10 meter distance.

The event was divided into two days. Nelson, Trail and Castlegar took their shot on Feb. 10 at the Trail Armory, while Elk Valley, Fernie, Cranbrook, Golden, Invermere and Creston tried their hand on Feb. 11 at Cranbrook Armory. A total of 41 Kootenay cadets from sea, army and air divisions competed.

Elk Valley cadet Etienne Kennedy was awarded second place for top junior shot with a score of 331 points out of 400. Linnea Ladwer of Trail came in first with 344 points and Charlotte Faragher of Nelson took third with 317 points.
