Pharmacies in Sparwood and Fernie have begun administering COVID-19 vaccine shots as of Dec. 15.

They join more than 350 pharmacies across 80 communities in British Columbia administering vaccines. Another 700 are expected to begin taking bookies by mid-January.

Pharmacist and owner of Sparwood Remedy’s Rx Pharmacy, Sarina Beran said they’d be administering shots all through December.

“It is exciting to be a part of the COVID vaccination program as we have been waiting to do this for a long time,” she said.

Beran said that the 200 bookings they had open for December were completely full, and they’d created a wait-list in case of cancellations.

“We’re making an effort to use (all vaccines) up,” she said.

With a new variant on the scene in Canada and around the world, Beran said that it was clear more people wanted to be as safe as possible heading into the holiday season.

“We used up all the doses (last week)”, she said.

Those eligible to receive a booster dose will receive an invitation to make a booking between six to eight months after they received their second dose.

The Sparwood Remedy’s Rx Pharmacy will schedule bookings for January in the near future. Bookings can be made online, or by calling 1-833-838-2323. Select your community to find a pharmacy near you offering booster shots.
