Despite the rest of Canada being more than halfway into Spring, winter has decided to come back to have another word in the Elk Valley, which woke to snow on Monday (May 9) and throughout the weekend.
The snowline reached the valley floor (albeit briefly) in Fernie, where temperatures were at 2 degrees early on. Up the valley in Sparwood it was 1 degree with light snow, while Elkford saw snow on Sunday.
Conditions will stay wet through the day, with the snow turning to rain throughout the valley and beyond.
The highways are clear, but drivers should stay safe as requirements for winter tires lapsed on April 30.
The precipitation should hopefully help put a damper on any wildfire potential in the region, which has already seen a handful of small fires as of early May.
