Fernie Alpine Resort is now even more Bear Aware after summer staff attended a presentation on preventing encounters with bears as part of their orientation.
Fernie Alpine Resort also reduces conflict by using methods of reducing bear attractants, including bear resistant dumpsters.
“Ongoing support from the Fernie Alpine Resort Summit Fund has enabled Bear Aware to ensure that all staff and visitors at Fernie Alpine Resort are knowledgeable and able to prevent encounters with bears,” said Kathy Murray from Bear Aware.
“Bears are regularly seen passing through the bike park and staff have done a great job in ensuring that the public is aware of bear sightings.
“Fernie Alpine Resort’s Bear Aware program and wildlife sightings procedures have set a precedent for other bike parks throughout the province.”
