Fernie locals gathered at Prentice Park last Tuesday to celebrate Canada’s 147th birthday.

Although the country hasn’t quite reached it’s 150th birthday, where a huge celebration is expected, there was still a large crowd at the park on Tuesday soaking up the sun and celebrating our beautiful country.

“Everybody loves the Canada Day celebrations in Fernie,” Kelsey Voysey with the Fernie Chamber of Commerce said.

The celebration began at 12 p.m. with a singing of our national anthem and held strong throughout the day.

Visitors enjoyed a Canada themed cake, bouncy castles, a treasure hunt, face painting and a kids craft tent sponsored by the Fernie Chamber of Commerce.

“We were thrilled to see all the children’s activities become such a success and everybody was having a good time,” Voysey said.

Nearly a dozen bands also performed live on stage, including The Archers and Thar Be Dragons Duo.

The night finished with a bang, as celebratory fireworks filled the night sky.
