Fernie has an all-new (youth) councillor for 2022, with Summit Wannamaker stepping the role, which goes from now until June 2022.

“I look forward to working with members of the public, and I am very much looking forward to working with Council and bringing youth perspectives to council meetings,” said Wannamaker.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity and looking forward to my term as a Youth Councillor.”

The City of Fernie has welcomed volunteer youth councillors to their meetings since 2019. Wannamaker is the third councillor since the current council adopted the practice.

Mayor Ange Qualizza said that the city valued the inclusion of youth councillors.

“Council has really enjoyed our previous Youth Councillors. They are enthusiastic, keen, and a valuable part of our team. We are looking forward to working with Mr. Wannamaker.”
