Fernie’s annual Holiday Kickoff is taking place on Friday (Nov. 25), with all kinds of festivities taking place in town to promote fun and support local business.
People who spend a minimum of $25 at a Fernie business on Friday can be entered to win a $1,000 gift card to a Fernie business of their choice, with a winner to be announced the week of Nov. 28. Receipts must be kept to claim a prize.
Spearheaded by the Fernie Chamber of Commerce, events, sales and promotions will be taking place at Fernie businesses throughout the whole day, with 37 businesses participating.
Santa will be doing visits throughout 2nd Ave. starting at 4 p.m., with the Audielles singing carols along the road (they will be at the museum at 6 p.m.) and the Griz also making an appearance (he will be on 7th Ave. from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. and be downtown at 6 p.m.).
The main gathering of the community will be taking place at Station Square starting at 6 p.m., where there will be holiday tunes, photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus and beverages for adults. Hot cocoa from Starbucks will also be available.
At 7:30 p.m., the Audielles will be singing carols on stage and the Christmas tree will be lit up (while folks are encouraged to search for the Griz and take a photo to post on social media with the hashtag #grizdays).
At 8 p.m., fireworks will fill the sky for people young and old to marvel at and to kick off the holidays with a bang.
