The 10th Wapiti Music Festival is just around the corner.
Going from this Friday through to Saturday (August 5-6), the indie music festival at Fernie’s James White Park will feature 11 bands and musicians from around Canada.
“Our team has a lot to be proud of,” said Wapiti’s artistic director Chantel Vincent. “There is so much excitement!”
Tickets to the 2022 festival have been completely sold out, with none to be available at the gate on Friday or Saturday.
The lineup has The Sheepdogs as the headliner – a band that Wapiti had been trying to pin down since the very first festival. Also on the lineup are The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer, local favourite Shred Kelly, My Son The Hurricane, The Free Label, Zaki Ibrahim, John Welsh and Los Valientes, Leather Apron Revival, Mount Rushka, The Steadies, and Fernie local DJ Cona.
The 2022 festival is the return of Wapiti after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, and a lot of the names of the lineup for this year are bands that had to be cancelled in 2020.
With a new location at James White (rather than the usual location at Annex Park due to construction work), organizers are asking attendees to be patient and understanding.
“Any new location needs time to organize and sort the kinks, but we are feeling good about it,” said Vincent.
Those that are getting to the festival by bike are asked to bring a bike lock as the event is running short on volunteers, making a secure bike check difficult to organise. There will be lots of bike parking available.
