The return of Wildcat Days in Elkford also meant the return of the associated ball tournament, and things were a little different this year.

Instead of a large, higher-stakes and competitive tournament as used to be held in the past, this year, for the first time, the focus was family-friendly fun.

The Family Ball Tournament, hosted by Elkford Minor Ball, took place through Wildcat Days on Friday (July 1) and Saturday (July 2).

“It’s just basically a fun tournament,” said organizer Blaine Borys.

“We try to get families and friends, and that’s basically what it turned out to be.”

In 2022, there were six teams, and no winners or losers.

Teams were mostly local, though some brought in members from outside of Elkford.

They were the Borys Brats, Pare Pirates, Durbans Dingers, Moffat Brute Squad, Patons Ace of Bases, and Oldies but Goodies (the latter of which included several members over 65 years old, according to Terry Vandale, administrator of Elkford Minor Ball)

“People were just cheerin’ for these old guys runnin’,” Vandale said. “It was great”

Vandale said they couldn’t have asked for better weather on Friday and Saturday.

“Our town supported us, our local businesses supported the event, it was great to see the public out cheering on the teams,” she said.
