The City of Fernie is getting closer to having news on when it will have a new sani dump, with the existing location at the Visitor Information Centre closed, and to be ripped up in coming construction works to re-do the car park there.
According to the city’s chief administrative officer, Michael Boronowski, the city has completed budgeting for a new sani dump.
Speaking at a committee of the whole on Apr. 19, Boronowski said the city was “weeks away” from being able to announce where it will be, or revealing a timeline for its installation and operation. The VIC sani dump would usually open in May.
The existing dump is very popular in summer months – so much so that the VIC car park becomes congested with traffic out onto Hwy. 3.
The Fernie Chamber of Commerce, which operates the VIC has highlighted a lack of a communication strategy on whats happening with the sani dump, and has instead been sharing information on alternate locations for users.
VIC and chamber staff have been directing potential users to other locations in the area, such as the Fernie RV Resort in town, Sparwood (30km away), Kikomun Provincial Park (43 km away) and Cranbrook (95km away).
