Members of the Jaffray Fire Department were called to a recreational vehicle fire on Monday, May 20 near Tie Lake.

The fire was called in by people out on their ATVs who came across the burning vehicle said Elk Valley and South Country Rural Fire & Rescue Chief Michael Hockley in a press release.

“Upon arrival, it appears as though the fire may have started sometime overnight and the trailer is a full loss. There was no sign of occupants in or around the trailer and, at this time, it appears that no one was home at the time the fire broke out.”

Six firefighters and four paces of equipment responded but as the site was quite remote, firefighters could only access it with their small woodland engines. The fire is reported to be fully extinguished and firefighters monitored through the afternoon to watch for hot spots.

“I want to thank the members of the public for calling it in. It is so important for us to have those eyes and ears across the region who are willing to call things in when they see them,” adds Hockley.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and anyone who knows the owner of the RV is asked to contact RCMP or the Jaffray Fire Department.
