The Fernie Museum is celebrating opening a handicap building in the Second Avenue building next week.
On Friday, September 28, there will be a celebration to mark the opening of the lift, as well as the opening of an art exhibition by Fernie artist Tara Higgins.
Everyone is welcome to attend at the museum between 7 and 9 p.m.
“The opening of our new handicap lift at the museum is a big deal for the museum and the community,” said Laura Nelson, President of the Fernie and District Historical Society.
“We are very excited and pleased to offer this to our visitors. It’s been three years in the making!”
Grace Brulotte, a young local writer who is wheelchair-bound, has been invited to take the inaugural ride in the new lift.
Tara Higgins’s exhibit will be on display until the end of October.
