RCMP seeking information after bullet hole reported in irrigation transformer near Elko

The cost of repair and cleanup is estimated at close to $10,000

The Elk Valley RCMP is asking for information about an incident involving a bullet hole in a BC Hydro transformer.

“On May 04, 2022, BC Hydro reported one of the irrigation transformers located south from Hwy 3 and 93 intersection near Elko, B.C. was shot at,” reads a press release from Cst. Debra Katerenchuk of the EVRCMP.

“The costs to repair the damaged transformer and the ground clean-up is estimated to be close to $10,000.”

The release says that the person(s) responsible for the ‘criminal mischief’ can be charged under Section 430 of the Criminal Code of Canada, with the penalty depending on the circumstances of the case.

“A similar incident happened in June of last year.”
