Mike Sosnowski will be running for Regional District of the East Kootenay (RDEK) Area A Director.

After serving as Regional District for the East Kootenay Area A Director for nine years, approximately three terms, Mike Sosnowski wants to continue the work that he has spent nearly a decade dedicating his time and energy to.

This year, Sosnowski has been successful in having the West Fernie boundary extension project approved, a project he began over seven years ago, releasing an Official Community Plan (OCP) for the Elk Valley and establishing a flood control service to help with flood mitigation in Area A.

“I’ve had a triple crown of successes this year,” Sosnowski said, adding, “the biggest project moving forward is West Fernie.”

Although West Fernie residents and the City of Fernie approved the project, Sosnowski said they still need another $6 million in funding to complete the last phases in grant money.

“I feel I’m the candidate to do that because of the relationships I’ve been able to build with the provincial and federal governments over the last nine years,” he said.

Sosnowski also noted the success of the OCP—a plan that was released by the RDEK just a few weeks ago.

“That was something that’s been needed for 25 years,” he noted. “This job, you can either do nothing or go to work. When you put your hand up and say, ‘I’ll take the job,’ you go to work.”

If re-elected Sosnowski hopes to see these jobs though, and bring some new projects forward as well.

And Sosnowski prides himself on his accessibility to the Area A people.

“I’m always available to the public,” the candidate who provides residents and visitors with his cell phone number said.
