Drift and Sonder, Fernie’s newest refillery and lifestyle shop, officially opened their doors on Jan. 22.

The shop is operated by local sister-duo, Aysha and Joanna Haines, whose vision was to create a shop that encourages residents to live a low-waste lifestyle, whether they’re new to sustainable living or have been zero-waste for years.

“There’s this idea of perfection– that you have to be a total zero waster before you can start, and it can be overwhelming,” said Joanna Haines.

“So we just wanted to create a space that was easy to access and made it seem less intimidating to start making the little changes, because we believe that all the little changes add up and make a big difference.”

The shop offers locals a variety of quality sustainable goods for the conscious and the curious, ranging from reusable containers, to refillable cleaning products, skin care, home decor, kitchen items, and men’s care products.

“We have lots of products that support the environment and support your wellness at the same time,” said Joanna.

“(The shop) balances home essentials and well being … we want you to feel good so that you can show up every day as the best version of yourself, making little small steps.”

According to Joanna, while the duo recognizes the struggles associated with opening a business in the midst of a pandemic, they did not want to let the challenge stop them from offering the community a range of beneficial and sought after products.

“It’s been a labour of love over the last few months and it just feels really exciting to open our doors and show everybody what we’ve been working on,” said Joanna.

“We’re just super excited to be part of the community and join the roster of amazing businesses in Fernie.”

The shop is located down Fernie’s Second Avenue 672 D Second Avenue, and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
